At 7:33 PM the meeting was called to order by F. Miller, pres.
The minutes were accepted.
S. Tryc said that the old sum $887.14 stands, with no income, no outgo. The report was accepted, subject to audit.
Seven members were present, and one former member.
The program idea hotkey was suggested. S. Tryc said they are really quite various.
Old bizness:
R. Snyder spoke of the investment SIG s Sep13 meeting, held in the McMaster room (the room was impressive). There spoke Peggy Schmeltz and David Trotsky, the head bizness-librarian. The latter s speech was like an infomercial, how we spend your tax dollars: one can borrow DVDs, CDs with books on them, but now also an MP3-player with everything but the borrower s own earbuds—all this soon will be also in the branches. Log on to library website (on handbill that Snyder handed out), let mouse hover over Research & Reference [it is mouse-bound—ed.] and so on; to these resources all through their library subscription are entitled. There is reciprocity all throughout Ohio, through one s library card for on-line resources. In Cleveland, say, with one s Toledoan library card one is entitled to a local card for such local resources. At that meeting around 40 were present.
L. Miller said that he had gone to the genealogy group for his Irish background. At that meeting around 70 were present. He sought information where in Ireland to find out about his.
New bizness:
S. Tryc said that there is TALUG meeting on the 3d Saturday,
introduction to Linux—but on the website only the
Linux convention is mentioned.
T. Tenney said that there was in Dayton a hacker convention.
S. Tryc said that on his machine many port scans are detected, and his
backtrace to their origins runs through manie machines.
Halász said that ordinary connections also often run through
more machines than one expects.
F. Miller passed on a story from his sister [follow the links
