From Your President:

The President of The Northwest Arkansas PC User Group chose a simple dialog to show how they are using that ’puter on your desk to do all kinds of things that blur the heretofore separate digital categories. He says, …

I was talking to Clem the other day about how this technology stuff is going right over our heads. He (Clem) said, Yep, and do you know those TV guys are stealin’ some of our ’puter stuff. Somewhat confused (a normal occurrence), I asked Clem to tell me some more. He says, Well I been readin’ bout how them TV guys are stickin’ some of our big ’puter hard drives in their digital tape recorders.

I asked Clem why they would do somethin’ like that. He says, I read that they got it fixed up that you can do your own instant replays … and even pause the live TV shows so you can go to the outhouse or get some grub. I said, sure and miss the show. Nope, he says, They got it plumb rigged up so you don’t miss nothin’, it picks up where you paused. I had to laugh at that one, seems Clem has been wondering a little since he passed that 100 mark.

This was gettin’ too good to pass on, so I says, tell me more, Clem. He said, They even got some secret stuff in it that knows what you watch. I was rolling about this time and Glem got a bit upset. I’m serious, he says, it will record shows you usually watch even if you don’t tell it to. Laughingly, I said, sure and does it make your popcorn also? Ouch, dang, Clem, you hurt my nose with that punch. He says, Get serious man, they are stealing our ’puter stuff.

So I told Clem the only thing to do was fight fire with fire, let’s steal some of the TV stuff for our ’puters. Clem paused, Hmmmm, he says, just what do you mean?

Well, I said, we can always rig it up so we can watch TV on our ’puters. That one got Clem rolling also. Do you think we can get some music stuff or even some radio stations, I sorta like that farm station from Cedar Rapids. He was bustin’ his gut on that one. I said, Shucks, Clem, maybe we can get it to pick up CB’ers like Granny can with the fillin’s in her teeth.

Thank you Joe and Clem, I think. They have hit on something there. We only have to get some snippets from the upcoming Show in Las Vegas that further highlights the blurring of the functions of all kinds of gadgets that make it possible to hear, watch, record and hear and rewatch content 24/7 almost any place in the whole wide world on equipment on your desktop in your briefcase, in your pocket, in your car, on the trail, etc., etc. We haven’t seen the end yet. With Joe and Clem it’s going over our heads.

Somehow we have to jack up our heads so that less goes over them. Hopefully coming together at the Toledo PC Users Group will help jack up our heads.

See y’all Monday evening—same time same place. Bring a guest.

Your Prez: FLOYD L. MILLER

God.com

Dear Lord,

Every single evening
As I'm lying here in bed,
This tiny little Prayer
Keeps running through my head:
God bless all my family
Wherever they may be,
Keep them warm and safe from harm
For they're so close to me.
And God, there is one more thing
I wish that you could do;
Hope you don't mind me asking,
Please bless my computer too.
Now I know that it's unusual
To bless a motherboard,
But listen just a second
While I explain it to you, Lord.
You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends;
Inside those small compartments
Rest so many of my friends.
I know so much about them
By the kindness that they give,
And this little scrap of metal
Takes me where they live.
By faith is how I know them
Much the same as you,
We share in what life brings us
And from that our friendships grew.
Please take an extra minute
From your duties up above,
To bless those in my address book
That's filled with so much love.
Wherever else this prayer may reach
To each and every friend,
Bless each e-mail inbox
And each person who hits send.
When you update your Heavenly list
On your own Great CD-ROM,
Bless everyone who says this prayer
Sent up to GOD.com.

Amen

Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 19:43 by F. Miller, president.

There were no minutes to accept.

The treasurer s report, $1054.14 for the balance, was accepted, subject to audit.

There was no membership report.

L. Miller said that he plans teaching in January, either Windows XP or iBook.

There was no old bizness.

New bizness:

The meeting schedule that R. Ballogg arranged with the union hall was discussed. Aside from it that there is planned on January 7th an important football game and that the September meeting is a week after, not ere, Labor Day, both small points, no fault was found with it.

It is planned that, as usual, the Internet SIG meets on the third Monday, the 17th. Christmas is not too soon after.

The meeting was adjourned at 20:00, afterwards festive eating.

Respectfully submitted by Sándor Halász, secretary.
