From the President

The President’s Message:

I’ve counted the months on my fingers, but have had to start over to get to 12 months. And so it is that December, the last month of the year, has arrived and is already well spent. Of course it is a month filled with much celebration, religious and social and commercial. It is filled with many traditions be they family or community.

The Toledo PC User’s Group has already had it’s traditional celebration. We have already had our Holiday Party with extra opportunity to talk computereez and whatever else, as well as have some delightful food and beverages. To all who made it possible and especially to our Program Chairman, Lester Miller, a GREAT BIG THANK YOU is in order.

Some members subscribed to Smart Computing when rep’s of the publisher were in a meeting a few months ago. For me it has been a very helpful and informative publication. A note or two might be in order to share out of my past readings.

Who doesn’t have a cell phone or two in their family. www.wirefly.com is a site which rates best phone, best plan, best carrier & coverage and how to maximize all three. If you shop by Carrier, you’ll see the available carriers in your ZIP code, rated by their local coverage quality, plan costs, and customer care.

There’s that pesky message, “ink cartridge is low in ink”. What to do, buy a new one and change when the old one give out or buy a refill kit and attempt to refill it from a refill kit. Again Smart Computing Jan 06 compares costs. The example used in the refill article, p 44, has a cost for a milliliter of refill ink at $ 0.25 and the cost of same quantity in a new cartridge at $ 1.92. Their recommendation was the use of compatible inks over generic inks. The middle-of-the-road approach is to find a refill service by individuals of a retail establishment in a mall.

The next time I see your shiny faces we will have seen “old man ’05” leave the scene and will welcome the “new babe ’06”. See you at the meeting on the 1st Monday of January (2nd) at same place and time.

Remember:
Visitors are welcome,
Members are expected.

Your Prez. Floyd L. Miller

Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 19:38 by Floyd Miller, pres.

The minutes were accepted.

The treasurer s report was accepted, subject to audit. On the banquet $46 were spent, all who wish to be compensated for that which they brought speak to him.

Roy Ballogg reports that there are 25 members, Ann Summers included.

Curtis moved, Tryc seconded, that the club send Ann Summers a card, that she is missed at the meetings, and the club once more thanks her.

Lester Miller said that for January he has yet no program, but a couple of people in mind. It was suggested that the club and the members also come up with suggestions for him to consider. There is also an Adobe instruction video; maybe the members pass it around, maybe it is made a scheduled program. It was pointed out that at TALUG meetings the members volunteer the program.

The Internet SIG is held on the third Monday night. but the consensus is that it be canceled, and that Jim Bell therefor be called, and also so post it on the website.

The Investment group meets on the first Saturday at 2pm at the Heatherdowns branch.

Old bizness:
The e-mailed version of the newsletter sent Jim Mack is deemed spam by his firewall. He is advised to find it on the club s website.

New bizness:
The newsletter editor, Nina Sherman, resigned. F. Miller is willing to undertake the editing if another is willing to be president. The vice-president, Rick Snyder, is not willing. The secretary will give it a whirl.

Roy Ballogg made up the meeting schedule with the union officers: every first Monday, except of September, that one a week earlier.

Eugene Curtis will reduce the schedule to dollar-bill size, for members to hand out and thereby advertize the club.

The TALUG meetings split into that for beginner and advanced, the first and third Saturdays.

The meeting was adjourned at 20:25, for the banquet.

Respectfully submitted by Sándor Halász, secretary
